Manscapes
MANSCAPES is a photographic series exploring the presence of humans in the seemingly barren landscapes of Iceland. Despite expectations of Iceland being raw in natural landscape and sparse in human population, there were few uninterrupted vistas not dotted with the dereliction of rusting machinery, or a tourist with a selfie stick. The images could be read as glorified selfies as the artist’s face is seen reflected in a mirror next to abandoned machines and outhouses. They are intended to highlight the efforts humans make to live in even the most hostile environments; that agricultural progress causes abandonment; and that the traces of this dereliction becomes the landscape itself.
The images were taken as part of a road trip around Iceland in the summer of 2015.
